Worldwide, 1.2 billion people do not have access to reliable drinking water. The drinking water problem is a subject of great interest internationally. There is a very great need for parties who can help to solve this problem in developing countries.
Millennium objective
During the Johannesburg international summit conference in 2002 the millennium objective for water was adopted by the international community. The goal is in 2015 to halve the number of people without drinking water and sewers. The UN member states have committed themselves to making funds available.
Dutch know-how
The Dutch water companies are very well able to help. The water companies have wide experience, high quality knowledge, work in accordance with the public utilities principle and have a reputation abroad of being very reliable.
The Water Supply Company Drenthe
The Water Supply Company Drenthe (WMD) would be delighted to share their know-how on clean drinking water with others. The first priority is countries where the population is driven out of poverty to use water from rivers and lakes which are often polluted. The WMD is active in the Indonesian archipelago and in Africa.
