The Water Supply Company Drenthe (WMD) is engaged in the sustainable and efficient provision of drinking water in Drenthe.

The WMD supplies reliable and clean drinking water to 450,000 inhabitants of twelve municipalities in Drenthe. To this end, the WMD produces 32 billion litres of pure drinking water annually in twelve drinking water production utilities. Quality, reliability of supply and affordability are of first importance. The WMD therefore extracts the water from the most reliable source, from deep in the ground. For the control of this quality product WMD has the disposal of a laboratory. The quality of the water is laid down by law.
In addition to extracting, purifying and distributing drinking water, the WMD would like to establish a clear profile for itself nationally and internationally on the water market. These activities have been accommodated in various limited liability companies. Further to this, the WMD also concentrates on different innovative activities. In all of these, nature conservation and the environment are at the forefront.
The WMD is a public limited company in which municipalities and the provincial government hold all the shares. These shareholders have important authority such as the determination of the rates and conditions. Our shareholders support the social objectives of the WMD and a sustainable society which cares about the protection of nature and the environment.
